Our Prices
No where near us? Love our costumes? We will gladly ship them to you. To have them shipped:
Customer will be responsible for all costs of shipping and handling. A $5.00 handling fee per order charge will be added to each rental shipped, in addition to actual shipping cost.
A deposit will be required for each costume. The amount will be authorized (though not charged) on your credit card, meaning that these funds will not be available to you until we recieve the returned costume. You may also mail, in advance of the shipment of costumes, a check. This check will not be cashed prividing costumes are returned on the agreed upon date.
Customer will be bound by the same rental policy as a walk in customer, the policy is found here:
We do realize that phone orders can not be personally inspected by the customer. By placing a phone order, you are waiving this portion of the contract, and instead are agreeing to a good faith agreement between rental agent and renter that we will send you a good quality costume meeting your size and, where possible, color request.
Decades does not offer refunds, nor exchanges on phone or walk in orders. Unless you have personally picked out and inspected your costume, we can not guarantee 100% your satisfaction. However, after 20 years in the business, we know our costumes, and will make every effort to assure you are pleased.
We reserve the right to charge up to the full deposit amount for any costume, or portion thereof, not returned.
Decades costumes was started originally as a vintage clothing store by James Hall. Often people came to him saying they needed a piece, but only for a short time, and would he consider renting it. This blossomed into one small rack where a few costumes could be rented, and now, nearly 20 years later, Decades Costumes has taken on a life of it's own!!
Decades is now a unique and electrifying avenue for your formalware, costumes, and theatrical needs, with over 20 years in the business. We supply many of Northern California's leading theatrical companies and look forward to serving your personal and business needs. We are perfect for theatrical and school projects, Halloween, and accessories.
But far from stopping there, we supply full costumes from wigs to jewelry to shoes, have a costume, just need a few accessories to make it shine? We have it, from rhinestones to platform shoes.
What do you require to rent a costume?
We require the rental fee, plus a deposit. Under normal circumstances, the deposit will cost you nothing. However, if you have not returned your costume within one week, we will give you (1) one courtesy phone call and one week later will cash your deposit.
WHOOPS!! I forgot to return my costume, and you cashed my deposit check/ran my credit card. What do I do?
Return the costume, and we will refund your deposit cheerfully minus a late fee.
What is the late fee?
That would depend on what you rented, but figure $20.00 per complete costume rented per week.
Do you donate costumes to charities?
Our fees are already so low that we do not have a wide enough cushion to donate. However, we have been known to do trades. Please call for details.
Where do you get your costumes
A variety of places, including top wholesale costume houses, many pieces are vintage clothing collected locally and throughout South America, Western and Eastern Europe, and leading hollywood studios. Some pieces we make in the store, and others are brought into us by customers just like yourself who have some wonderful old vintage pieces.
Do you buy used costumes
Often. It really depends on what you have. We are not interested in off the rack costumes such as Rite Aid carries. We are looking for one of a kind, prefferably hand made costumes, or vintage clothing.
How much do you pay for them?
It really depends on the piece. If you feel you have something we may be interested in, bring it down and let us make an offer.
Will you sell your costumes?
Yes. Nothing in the rental area is priced to sell, but everything in the store is for sale. Please note that purchase price will be considerably higher than rental prices.
Why is it so expensive to purchase your costumes?
Many of the pieces we have are extremely hard to find. A great deal of effort went into locating, or creating, the perfect pieces for our customers, and to replace them would be costly for us.
I put "X" into the search engine, but didn't find what I was looking for. Any suggestions?
We have over 10,000 costumes, it would be impossible to list every single one of them. If you have a specific need, please call us and ask. Even if we don't have it, we may well know who does.
